The week of Oct 30th

This week WLLC focused on our Full Moon Reflections. We took a look at the year so far and talked and wrote about our accomplishments as a school and as individuals. Learners  and staff created the Day of the Dead alter to celebrate those who have passed.

With Hurricane/Tropical Storm Sandy approaching, we took the opportunity to study weather systems during Story of the Universe.

In creative writing, we continued to work on our children's stories, while some began writing a follow up to their story, movies, or comic books.

Michael led an art class focusing on October traditions.

The kids decided to reap the rewards of a carnival well done in the creating a business class as we discussed gross and net profit and the things we would do with our profit.

Margo once again led a wonderful Jedi Training experience using the exploration of symmetry and asymmetry to hone further into the awareness of their bodies.

Week Three at WLLC

Our Quote of the week:

"The more that you read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."  ~ Dr. Seuss

Our theme this week was the mind and how it is a tool of the heart. Many children created mind mandalas, so we now have mandalas illustrating spirit, heart and mind.

This week we did acro yoga, Chi Gong, and Rhythm Gym for morning movement. Each child created a learning plan mapping out all of the things from their heart map.

The children learned the names of the continents, and the location of India on a map. We also explored Indian culture through books and animals that live in India.

Many children took surveys to help them understand their learning styles and the way they learn best using Gardner's Multiple Intelligences.

In art this week, we did a draw along with Mr. Michael, creating self portraits.

There will be a Halloween Carnival which the children are creating from their business class. It will be on October 25th from from 5-8pm, with a potluck starting at 6:30 at 10801 Old San Antonio rd.

In Jedi training the children worked with awareness of breathe and played many fun games with Margo.

We explored the Story of the Universe with Michael and Caroline by taking a trip through our solar system this week and played a game, creating a scale model depicting the distances of the planets from the sun.

The children are writing and illustrating their own children's books in creative writing.

Our quote of the week:

"Live your life from you heart. Share from your heart, and your story will touch and heal people's souls."

~Melody Beattie, author

We had a heart centered week, charting our inspirations with Heart Maps! We also did a group Heart Map, which outlined possibilities for collective projects, classes and trips, fun!

We began our Jedi Training classes with Margo this week - exercises which help us increase our concentration and self-awareness. You can learn more at www.awarenessthroughthebody.com

We were so happy to have our new Mentor, Adam, back with us after the birth of his daughter, Aria!  Adam is offering Creative Writing and Starting a Business classes this season.

Michael and Caroline continued sharing the Story of the Universe, discussing the big bang, the formation of galaxies, the speed of light, and finally, the formation of the earth.

Caroline continued the One World India project with us, as we wrote letters which will be delivered to the Bhatti Mines School near Delhi.

Many exciting inspirations are already unfolding at the Whole Life Learning Center!
