Week Six at WLLC

Quote of the week
Having imagination without learning is like having wings without feet
~Joseph Joubert

This week we completed our first round on New Moon Intentions. This is how we bring our learning plans to life, by setting intentions to complete this month.  Our two groups, the Blue Jays and the Free Tailed Bats each completed group new moon intentions which we are very excited to bring to life this month. Then each child created their own. Some include, writing a play, creating a movie script, and practicing reading and writing.

Morning movement included yoga, capoeira, and rhythm gym.

In our enrichment classes the children continued working on their children's books and other creative writing stories. In the Story of the Universe we leanred about the lithosphere, atmosphere, and atmosphere. In Jedi training the children explored their subtle energies and bodies by walking around blindfolded slowly without bumping into eachother.

Food Forest FlyerCaroline leaves next Thursday for India! The children prepared letters and pictures for the chilren at the school. We also finished the details on our beautiful murals, one of which will go to the children in India.

All week, youth have been preparing for the Halloween Carnival. The kids worked on finalizing plans, built cardboard creations and games for the carnival, and created prizes for the games. Next Thursday, we will go on a fieldtrip to the new school space to prepare for the carnival that will be from 5-8 that evening.

On Tuesday, a parent came and led the children in constructing fairy houses in the gardens. The children created magical places complete with many details, one complete with a hat rack!

The week was very busy as we took action on our intentions, adopting the theme: Dream, Plan, Do.

Week Five at WLLC

Quote of the week:

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. - Harriet Tubman

This week we talked about what it takes to make our dreams become realities and how they could help the world. We are taking the needed steps to manifest our visions!

Tuesday we started our day doing Acroyoga with Mateo (http://www.playfulwarrioryoga.com/)! We worked on writing and illustrating our very own children's stories in creative writing with Adam! We are close to getting them into hardback books. We also learned about haiku's and some of us are even writing a play for our Halloween Carnival. In Story of the Universe with Michael and Caroline, we did "the dance of the molecules" and learned about different states of water. The Bluejays (our 5-7 year olds) also made puppets with Popsicle sticks.

Wednesday we started our day learning about Capoeira with Michael, an Afro-Brazilian martial art and dance. We learned how to play the instruments and the first basic steps. We planned a budget for our Halloween Carnival and practiced our multiplication and division in our business class with Adam. In our "Jedi Training" (Awareness through the Body) with Margo we worked on our awareness through the sense of touch with balloons. The Bluejays also worked on paper crafts and created owls and jack-o-lanterns for our Halloween Carnival decorations.

Thursday we started our day with Rhythm Gym (http://www.bal-a-vis-x.com/) and jump roping games! We had a fun rainy day indoor game time. We followed our inspiration after the rain with Captain Tyne floating his boat creation down a rain gully! In One World India with Caroline (One World Permaculture) we wrote letters to the kids at the Bhatti Mines School in India (Amala Foundation) . We also designed two murals! One we will send to the school in India, the other we will hang at our new school space when we move in there in November. We are excited to be creating a bridge between our communities!

Week Three at WLLC

Our Quote of the week:

"The more that you read, the more things you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."  ~ Dr. Seuss

Our theme this week was the mind and how it is a tool of the heart. Many children created mind mandalas, so we now have mandalas illustrating spirit, heart and mind.

This week we did acro yoga, Chi Gong, and Rhythm Gym for morning movement. Each child created a learning plan mapping out all of the things from their heart map.

The children learned the names of the continents, and the location of India on a map. We also explored Indian culture through books and animals that live in India.

Many children took surveys to help them understand their learning styles and the way they learn best using Gardner's Multiple Intelligences.

In art this week, we did a draw along with Mr. Michael, creating self portraits.

There will be a Halloween Carnival which the children are creating from their business class. It will be on October 25th from from 5-8pm, with a potluck starting at 6:30 at 10801 Old San Antonio rd.

In Jedi training the children worked with awareness of breathe and played many fun games with Margo.

We explored the Story of the Universe with Michael and Caroline by taking a trip through our solar system this week and played a game, creating a scale model depicting the distances of the planets from the sun.

The children are writing and illustrating their own children's books in creative writing.
